Thursday 06/26/2025: SPIE-MRSEC Seminar: Prof. Umet Aydemir, , 12-1 PM

Hi all!

Join us for a seminar on “From Structure to Function: Borophene and Halide Perovskite QDs for Energy and Photonic Applications” by Prof. Umut Aydemir from Koç University on Thursday, Jun 26, from 12-1 pm in Ford ITW 1350.

RSVP here (lunch will be provided)!

Umut Aydemir earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics and M.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering from Koç University in Türkiye. He completed his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Germany, studying intermetallic compounds. From 2013 to 2017, he was a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology and Northwestern University, USA, researching thermoelectric materials with Prof. G. Jeffrey Snyder. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Koç University and director of Koç University Boron and Advanced Materials Application and Research Center (KUBAM). His research focuses on boron-based high-tech materials, thermoelectric energy harvesting and cooling, catalysts, solar cells, and materials with unusual properties. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several prestigious awards in Türkiye, including the Science Academy’s Young Scientist Award (2018), the Turkish Science Academy’s Outstanding Young Scientist Award (2019), the Middle East Technical University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Foundation Research Incentive Award (2021), and the Koç University College of Science Outstanding Faculty Award (2024).
